Galt High School students get state awards

By Duane Ausherman

The Conference of California Historical Societies is an organization with the mission to unify and strengthen the historical organizations throughout the state.  One of many programs is to recognize the youth that assist in this effort by offering a "Young Historian" award.  This award was presented to 24 Galt students at the January meeting.

The students awarded the "Young Historian" certificate for the great work performed for the Galt Area Historical Society.

On the far left is Al Minard, President of the Conference of California Historical Societies and presenter of the awards.  In the back row is Ed Lindquist, president of GAHS, Kurt Ericsen, Chris Leddy, Joshua O'Hara, Shane McCutcheon, Bryce Soltice, Ryan Denier, Kathryn Salfen, and in red is Becca Coker.  Front row is Kasandra Valenzuela, Jessica Chamberlain, Samantha Hanchey, Jacob Saldana, Kristen Madsen, Alexis Silva and Andrea Hanchey.  To correct errors, please email to w6rec @ softcom.net.  Remove the two spaces.

The awards meeting of the Galt Area Historical Society was very well attended.

This photo was taken well before the meeting started.  All seats were filled and additional chairs had to be brought in and placed around the sides of the room.  In total, these students have volunteered about 2000 hours to projects.  In our fund raisers during one year, our students brought in over $2000.
