On February 15, 1964, Maude Bunte Quiggle Warren wrote the following on the back of a photograph of her at the age of 18.
18 at the time I joined the Rebekahs Lodge #132 Galt Calif. Note my Rebekah pin below beads and huge maline blu bow at "hind neck".
Mother made the white organdie dress and hemmed the nine miles of bias ruffles for "train". The pompadour all mine and like Evalyns, Judy or Betsy's in color. No make up those days - plenty castile - soap lather, and ears checked for "wax and such". A chain bracelet locked on my wrist during Galt school days by Frankie Phillips (his ma ran the bakery and penny candy shop - now Paul's shoe shop). I rode my horse from here to last year of grammar school at Galt and graduated with class of 1900 - four of us passed ex. - Blanch Sawyer, (sister of Joe) Mintha Davies (1901 Queen of "Sacramento Electric Street Fair" - Horse cars taking bow out.) The boy to pass ex., Delphine Botzbach's bro. Henning, and me. - I attended Howe's Academy (same as your ma and Aunt Myrt, Tom, and Curtis.) - "My home" was the Christian Association YWCA at 915 K Street. My first job stenographer and assistant bookkeeper at Kimbal/Upson Co. Guns, bikes, fishing tackle.
The Galt Area Historical Society offers a book of our local history called Tapestry. Click here for more information.
