Early Gas Engine and Tractor show, 2005

By Duane Ausherman

Just one of the many interesting tractors on display

The McFarland Living History Ranch was proud to host this show for the fifth year.  The Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Assn. Branch 13 organized this excellent show.  The show is set up on Friday for school children to visit and see a bit about our Central Valley history.  On Saturday the show is open to the public.  The viewing public was shown parades, a tractor pull and many demonstrations of antique farm machinery.  The Galt Area Historical Society is very pleased with the turnout, as it seems to be growing each year.  The show was free to all, but the society asked for donations at the parking gate.  Some visitors were so pleased that they donated again on the way out.

This is a class from the Galt Adventist Christian School, K-8.  They each had a sheet of questions to answer about early day ranch life.

These children are from two Elk Grove families and are home schooled.
They are (back row l. to r.) Trent Allen (9), Dan Spencer (6) and Adam Allen (11)
(Front row l. to r.) Zachary Allen (2), Jessica Spencer (4) and Sarah Allen (5)

The very popular tractor pull went on all day

This beautifully restorer John Deere is just one of many on show

Our own Jack Raynor is showing his International Harvestor

One of dozens of gas engines chugging away

This tool baffled many (me too) and is for sharpening the cutters on a sickle blade

Need a drop of oil?

Lets go riding

This is a collage of faucets and sprinklers

These models are as pretty as the full sized item

Shirt sales seemed to be brisk

See the men cooking?  Not much danger.

If you were hungry, go visit Nelda at the "Lunch Break" owned by her brother, Iram Romero.  If your group needs a food vendor, call 209-992-2094.

The pie ladies sold out early.  l. to r. Aderian Hutson, Angie Andrade, Ida Denier, Gladys and Louise Dowdell.

The Galt Area Historical Society welcomed visitors and asked for donations at the parking lot.  This is Aimee Sayre, 17, and a senior at Galt High.  It really pays to have a young pretty girl asking for the donations.  She probably out performed me two to one with donations.  Thanks so much Aimee, as you really helped out.  By the way, just how much did these two attentive listeners donate?
